I was an athlete prior to the amputation – and still am. I cycle with the guys downtown every morning as well as compete in some triathlons. The decision of the amputation was made for me 4½ years ago because I had MRSA. The surgeon took the foot off, but came back to me a few days later and said we need to go higher. Suddenly it was gone. My first sensation was sadness, like a friend that you lose. Mike Rieth from St. Petersburg Limb & Brace, went right into the operating room with me during surgery and put a cast on. The cast prevented swelling, promoted healing, and allowed me to be weight bearing earlier. I met Mike when he came into my room a few days after the surgery and he shared with me what he does and about himself. I was very comfortable with him. At that point, I knew I would stick with him. I follow my gut and I could feel it. We are now very good friends. I tell everyone I talk to “if you want to get a leg done right, go to St. Petersburg Limb & Brace”.
